Polymerase Chain Reaction-PCR

Polymerase Chain Reaction-PCR

Polymerase chain reaction, commonly called PCR, is a molecular-based test. These tests are most often performed in a laboratory to diagnose COVID-19.

PCR test examines your upper respiratory specimen and directly screens for the presence of genetic material, Ribonucleic acid, or RNA viral of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. With the help of this test, the virus is detectable in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease appear. These types of tests can diagnose early illnesses.

Your results should be available in approximately 3-7 days with a PCR swab test.

Antigen Test

Did you get nasal swabbed by a nurse? Yes, that’s the way for your COVID-19 antigen test!

Immunoassays that detect the presence of a specific viral antigen, indicating current viral infection in a body, are called Antigen Tests.

In this method, a sample or specimen is taken by swabbing inside your nose, nasopharyngeal, or saliva. These rapid tests produce results in 15-30 minutes and have been commonly used in the diagnosis of other respiratory pathogens, too, like influenza and RSV.

If you requested a rapid COVID-19 test, results could be produced in approximately 15 minutes.
